Bow Caddy Media interview Mike Sanderson, Bouwe Bekking, Matt Humphries, and cover off the Channel Race

Admiral’s Cup 2025 |Channel Race - Crosbie Lorimer Overview

The Channel Race - the opening event of the 2025 Admiral’s Cup - had a bit of everything; patchy breezes, rain, sunshine, strong winds, numerous ships and a fast-charging finish. Crosbie Lorimer provides a brief overview of the race (with the help of YB Racing’s Tracker) and confirms which teams currently lie in the podium positions before we enter the inshore racing phase of the Admiral’s Cup.

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Mike Sanderson Interview

Following the RORC Press Conference, the day before the start of the Channel Race we caught up with Mike Sanderson, the main trimmer on Jim Murray’s GP42 Callisto, the AC2 entry for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Mike is of course widely known for his role as CEO of Doyles Sails and has a matchless yacht racing CV that includes ISAF World Sailor of the Year and the unique record of having been the youngest skipper to win a Volvo Ocean Race in 2005-2006. In this interview Mike explains how he came to be the ‘owner’ of the winning Admiral’s Cup yacht in 1999, why Cowes holds emotional connections for him and how he’s going to deal with racing on the 40 foot Callisto, when he’s rarely raced offshore in anything less than 60 foot long!

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Bouwe Bekking Interview

Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Bouwe Bekking Interview Bouwe Bekking, who holds the official title of ‘Volvo Ocean Race Legend’ after competing in the race eight times, is sailing in the afterguard of Niklas Zennstrom’s Ran in the Admiral’s Cup. Bouwe talks about the unique nature of team racing in the Cup, the value of the mixed conditions experienced in the Channel Race in creating a level playing field across the fleet and finishes this interview with an update on news from the J Class scene.

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Matt Humphries Interview

Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Matt Humphries Interview British sailor and five-time Volvo Ocean Race participant Matt Humphries is the navigator aboard Sean Langman’s GP42 Back2Black. In this interview he talks about how they fared in the Channel Race and – with three days of inshore racing commencing tomorrow – the unique challenges of the Solent’s winds and tides.

Stay tuned for more.
